Evidence of Hobbit-Sized Humans Found in Island Cave
Can you imagine a world of tiny humans? What if everyone were only three feet tall? The world would be a lot different. We would need tiny cars, tiny markets, smaller streets and smaller houses. A basketball player might not be any taller than 4 feet. What would that basketball court look like?
How would your life be different if everything were half-sized? It’s fun to imagine what our modern world might be like if our human race were made up of a much smaller version of ourselves.
A fascinating recent discovery shows that there actually were tiny humans that lived on Earth as early as 18,000 years ago. On the Indonesian Island of Flores, archeologists have uncovered a new species of humans. This species, given the name Homo Floresiensis, was not even a meter tall. A meter is a little over 3 feet, so that means that these little people were only about 3 feet tall.
The remains of this dwarfed species were found in the Liang Bua cave on the Island of Flores. This cave has deep deposits, which means there are many deep layers of history and materials that archeologists can dig up and retrieve artifacts from.
While they were digging in this cave, they found many stone tools, as well as remains of this tiny human species. By the time they were done, they had found seven more of these tiny adult skeletons. Further artifacts show that this island was also home to tiny elephants. These tiny elephants were hunted by the tiny humans and were most likely a main source of food.
This is a very exciting discovery for archeologists and anthropologists who are dedicated to uncovering the mysteries of evolution on this planet. It looks like Flores has an interesting history of its own. What else might archeologists find on this island?
