Creepy Crawlers

Here are some pretty interesting facts about some things you might think are really gross:

Did you know that worms are some of the earth’s natural recyclers? They break down organic matter into nutrients that are good for the earth. Essentially, worms slither through anything that’s died and is on the ground. We’re talking about trees, leaves, fruit, nuts, animals and food. If worms didn’t exist then all of these dead things would pile up on the ground. But, thanks to worms, they break it all down, leave nutrients, and turn it all into rich soil for new seeds to grow. Bet you’ll think twice about the importance of worms next time you see one!

Did you also know that:

A cockroach can live a week without its head. It will only die because without a mouth, it can’t drink water and dies of thirst.

Cockroaches bleed white blood.

Crushed cockroaches can be applied to a stinging wound and help relieve the pain.

Roaches can live without food for a month, but will only survive a week without water.

A cockroach heart is nothing but a simple tube with valves. The tube can pump blood backwards and forwards in the insect. The heart can even stop moving without harming the roach.

Cockroaches can climb walls because they are equipped with a set of little claws on their feet designed for that very purpose.
