Traveling with Camper Trailers

America’s love of cars and being on the open road has led to the creation of the modern travel or camping trailer. Some trailers are so well equipped that people can comfortably live in them full-time.
With a good trailer in tow, you can take some of the comforts of home along with you on your next road trip, or to one of the many beautiful camping destinations across the country.
There are several types, sizes and even different names for campers. Almost all campers are considered recreational vehicles (RV’s). Recreational vehicles include motor homes, trailers, “teardrop trailers,” house trailers and truck campers.
The smaller trailers usually have just enough room for two people to sleep and store a few personal travel items such as clothing. Some of the larger motor homes include a kitchen, bathroom, eating area and even a bedroom.
While tent camping is always an adventure, campers are a fun way to take a long trip, or to spend some more comfortable time in a beautiful setting, like a lakeside campground — especially if you’re going to be away from home for while.
The modern use of camper trailers in the United States began in the early 1920’s. At that time people who traveled with their camper trailer were called “tin can tourists.” Trailers of that time were often made of aluminum, which is a shiny metal. The most commonly recognized aluminum trailer is the Airsteam. The Airstream was made in the 1930’s and they are still made today. The Airsteam was designed aerodynamically with rounded corners to help increase gas mileage.
Today, many camper trailers have been designed for a person to live in the trailer comfortably. Some people choose to park their trailers in trailer parks and live in their trailers full time. In America many retired adults choose to spend their time traveling across the country on the open road and bring their trailers with them. Full time use of trailers for cross country travelers is considered to be a recreational activity.

Camper trailers can also be rented and used for a shorter period of time, such as a camping trip or a road trip. A camper trailer can be a comfortable alternative to sleeping in a tent if you are camping.
In July, 2006, Chevron Cars produced a toy camper trailer named Hap E. Camper that can be hitched to a number of other Chevron Cars.
Have you ever traveled in a camper trailer? What did you like about it? What did you miss about the comforts of home?
