William Henderson
It is the dream of many young people, to become a professional sports player. It seems like a pretty exciting job, to play a sport that you love and to get paid lots of money for it. The reality is that not many people actually make it to the professional level of playing sports. That doesn’t mean you should give up on your dream. But, take it from William Henderson of the Green Bay Packers, it’s not just the sport and money that make his life worthwhile.
At the age of five, Henderson was picking up litter in his neighborhood and helping neighbors do their yard work. Long before he became a big football star, he understood the importance of giving back to his community. And he hasn’t forgotten to do this since he’s become the starting fullback for the Green Bay Packers. Instead, he has used his position as a way to promote good will. He is involved in the Special Olympics, the Leukemia Society, the Crippled Children’s Fund and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. He has also made many visits to hospitals and schools in his community. He really cares about children and it shows. Playing football full time and being involved in these charities seems like enough for one person, but William Henderson has taken it one step further. In an effort to recognize and congratulate young people who excel in school and are active in their community, Henderson has been working to start a new foundation called “Henderson’s Heroes.” Basically, there will be commercials on TV asking people to nominate students in 6th to 12th grade who represent good role models in school and outside of school. Then, twelve of these students will be chosen for their excellence and will be bussed to Green Bay to learn about the Packers, have dinner with Henderson and attend a Packers home game.
He’s a pretty amazing individual, and his goal is to salute those who make a difference. Because he makes such a difference, we salute William Henderson of the Green Bay Packers!
