As the snowboard evolved from a “skiboard” to the sleek designs of today, so did a whole vocabulary for the sport. Get ready for the Olympics next month with these “in-the-know” words.

Bomb: Awesome

Carve: A non-skid turn

Fakie: Riding backwards on the snowboard.

Indy Grab: Heading downhill, the snowboarder hits a jump, bends down and grabs the part of the board that is between her feet.

Nose Grab: Snowboarder brings her feet up in the air to the right side and grabs the front tip of her snowboard.

Rodeo Flip: A 360 degree turn that is also over backwards.

Stiffie: The snowboarder executes a 90 degree turn, lifts up both legs straight in front and grabs the part of the snowboard between his feet.

Tail Grab: Same as Nose Grab except grab the back tip of the snowboard.
