Paul Hamm Olympics Diary: June 28, 2004

How is preparation going for the Trials?
My training has been going great. I feel very prepared for the trials and can’t wait to compete in Anaheim.
Will you be performing anything new in Anaheim?
Yes, I will be performing a different vault. I will compete a kos 1 1/2.
Is there anything in particular that you would like to accomplish at the Trials, other than securing a spot on the Olympic Team?
No, my main goal is to have a good competition and secure my spot on the Olympic team.
What do you expect the competition to be like? Is there anyone in particular that you think the fans should look out for?
The competition will be great. People should look forward to see Blaine Wilson and Jason Gatson back in action.
What do you think the intensity level will be like in Anaheim? Will the nerves be more of a factor than at other competitions?
The intensity at Trials will be a lot greater than at USA Championships. This higher level of intensity will benefit the gymnasts that have been through these pressure situations before.
Are you excited to be back in Anaheim for another big competition?
Yes, I can’t be upset about competing in the same arena where I won my world all around title.
Will competing in a familiar environment help calm your nerves?
I am not overly nervous going into Trials, but being in a familiar arena can’t hurt.
Will you have time to do anything fun in Anaheim, like attend Disneyland?
I probably won’t have much time to do fun stuff in Anaheim. Maybe the night after the competition we can do something fun.
