Olympic Flame Facts
- The United Sates leg of the Olympic Torch Relay began in Atlanta, Georgia on December 4, 2001.
- Since then the Olympic Flame has been traveling an average of 208 miles per day during a 12-hour day.
- Each torchbearer carries the flame .02 miles.
- The number of torchbearers will total about 11,500.
- During its cross-country trek, the Olympic Flame will have visited 46 states.
- The torchbearers will have carried the Flame a total of 13,500 miles.
- On each day of its journey, the Olympic Flame will stop for two major community celebrations.
- The Olympic Flame will enter Salt Lake City, Utah for the Opening Ceremony on February 8, 2002.
- About 80 nations and 2500 athletes will participate in the 2002 Winter Olympics.
