Jason Gatson Olympics Diary: July 9, 2004

When does camp begin?
All of the guys will arrive here on Sunday and the camp officially begins on Monday.
It is in your hometown, right?
The camp is in my hometown and I am really happy about that.
Do you know what the schedule will be like? How many hours a day will you train?
Since there will be 2 days of competition at the camp for the remaining 7 guys, we will mainly be gearing up for that. But after the team is selected we will have 2 days to train and bond together.
In general, what do you expect to get out of the camp?
I’m really excited to be with this group of guys. Any time we are all together the feeling in the gym is intense and it brings the best gymnastics out of us all. And the fact that the Olympic team will be selected here I am excited to be able to train and be together with these guys before we leave for Athens.

Have you ever been to camp like this before?
I have been to a camp like this before. Last year for the 2003 World Championships we met in Ohio and trained at Ohio State for a week.
What do you think the intensity level will be like at camp?
The intensity level will be high and the atmosphere will be great. You have the best gymnasts in the country training together for the Olympic Games.
Do you think it will be more relaxing for you since you and your teammate Brett have already been named to the team…and it being your home gym where you train everyday?
It will be comfortable for Brett and me since it is at home but we will not be relaxing. We are going to train hard and want to perform our best at the camp.
