How do you feel about your performance at Trials?
I felt I had one of the best competitions ever even though I didn’t do floor or vault at the trials. I had a good feeling for some reason as soon as I got to California and set foot in the arena. I had such an amazing time last year at the Worlds and I felt a sense of comfort when I was back there in the arena.
Did your back give you any problems during the Trials?
My back felt surprisingly good at the trials. I had the usual aches and pains but nothing as severe as what I felt at the Nationals.
Is your back injury the reason you did not compete in all events at the trials?
Yes, I felt that I hadn’t done enough floor or vault before the trials so my coaches and I decided to concentrate on the other 4 events and try to put up the highest scores possible on those events.
How has your back been feeling since trials?
My back is feeling good. I started training hard this week and recently got another set of shots. I plan on doing one more set before I leave for the games and I should be ready to go.
If you could change one thing from the Trials, what would it be?
I struggled a bit on the first day with High Bar and Pommels so I wish maybe I could have done better routines then. But the second day I wanted to redeem myself on those events and score higher, which I did and I was really happy with my performances.
