Jason Gatson Olympics Diary: June 28, 2004

How is preparation going for the Trials?
Preparation is going well for me now. I was having problems with my back during the nationals but I feel it is better now and I will be ready to go at the Trials.
Will you be performing anything new in Anaheim?
I will be doing the same routines I have been doing all year.
Is there anything in particular that you would like to accomplish at the Trials, other than securing a spot on the Olympic Team?
I would like to compete well on the events I will do at the trials. It has been a long road for me and I hope and plan to do well, I love the excitement of our sport and can’t wait to compete again in Anaheim.
What do you expect the competition to be like? Is there anyone in particular that you think the fans should look out for?
The competition will be intense and I think the crowd is in for a treat because all of the athletes are going to be well prepared and ready to put on a good show.
What do you think the intensity level will be like in Anaheim? Will the nerves be more of a factor than at other competitions?
The intensity level will be high as always and I think as long as everyone relies on what they have done in training the competition will be more like a fun performance.
Are you excited to be back in Anaheim for another big competition?
I am really excited and so eager to get out there. My family lives 20 minutes from the Pond so I am happy that they will be so close and able to come and watch this exciting competition.
Will competing in a familiar environment help calm your nerves?
I think it always helps when you’ve been there before but a competition is a competition no matter where you’re at.
Will you have time to do anything fun in Anaheim, like attend Disneyland?
We will head back to Colorado after the competition and continue with training. On Wednesday we head out to International Gymnastics Camp for the weekend.
