Jason Gatson Diary: June 11, 2004

Tell us what your typical weekday is like.
A typical weekday for me is kind of crazy depending on the time of the year. Usually on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I am up early around 5:30 a.m. and heading to the weight room at the training center. I stay there usually and eat breakfast and then I get ready for 9:30 a.m. practice.

We usually train until 12:00 p.m. and then I head home to take care of my dog and walk her. After that I’m usually resting until our next practice which is 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. We love Thursday and Saturday because those are kind of lighter days for us. On Thursday we train from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

What about your weekends?
Weekends are nice and relaxing. I like to go out to eat a lot so I usually pick a nice place to go eat on Saturday or Sunday and then most of the time I’m just hanging out with my friends.

Does your training schedule vary depending on the time of the year, before meets, after, etc.?
Our training schedule does vary depending on the time of year. We usually tend to train a lot more at the beginning of a quadrennium just because we are learning new routines. Towards the last couple years of the quadrennium you spend more time perfecting your skills and routines which requires less time in the gym. Before a competition you usually taper down 1 week prior to the event and depending on your competition schedule you usually take it easy after a competition or you jump right back into routines. I think after a competition week you usually get a couple days to recover from the meet that way your staying healthy and not getting burnt out.
