Tell us a little about what you were thinking going into Championships as far as your health was concerned?
I was a little concerned since my back had been bothering me for a couple of months. I came in with the intention to compete but after the first day of training my back froze up on me so I knew I needed to be smart about it and make the right decision on competing or not.
Why did you decide to withdraw?
I withdrew because I felt I needed to be smart and I needed to get myself healthy. The important thing for me is to be healthy this summer so I can help the US team in Athens.
How does withdrawing from the competition affect your attitude heading into the final months of your career, preparation for Trials, etc.?
My attitude is the same, I am doing everything I possibly can to get myself on to the team. I am very excited to compete again and I have been on my own specific program to prepare for the upcoming competitions. I am staying very positive and staying in the best possible shape I can.
Did you stay in Nashville after you withdrew or head straight home?
When I withdrew from the competition I flew home that next morning which was the day of preliminaries. I went straight to the training center and then to the doctor to help heal my back.
What did you think of the competition in Nashville?
Since I wasn’t at the competition I was watching over the Internet. From the scores I saw and from what I heard, the competition was very exciting and the guys looked really good.
On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate the intensity level in Nashville?
I think the intensity level is at its highest right now. Everyone is fighting for their position and a spot on the Olympic Team.
