Gordy and Chris
Gordy Sheer and Chris Thorpe started Luge racing together in 1987. It took over 10 years for the two athletes to master driving the sled together. That’s the kind of persistence that led to their silver medal in the 1998 Winter Olympics!
Gordy is from Croton-on-Hudson, New York. He and Chris live and train with their other teammates at Lake Placid, New York. They are hoping for a gold medal this time.
Gordy and Chris race down the track faster than anyone else in the training camp! For good luck they like to say “Don’t choke,” to each other just as they start catapulting down the Luge course.
When careening at 80 miles per hour, Gordy and Chris only have about one twentieth of a second to slow down to avoid crashing! It’s hard enough for one person, but with two people, your really have to work together. You have to know ahead of time what each person will do and trust each other to do it. That’s teamwork! Here’s to going for the gold!
