The Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox do more than play baseball. In fact, with all of the other things they do, baseball seems like one of their hobbies. In 1991, the Chicago White Sox created an organization called the Chicago White Sox Charities, and from that organization they have encouraged positive change in their community. They have donated millions of dollars to Chicago based programs that focus on youth services, medical programs, education and the elderly. They have donated over 1 million dollars alone to cancer research and treatment. They also donated 1 million dollars to the districts in Chicago which went to help renovate the 800 baseball and softball fields used by the youth of Chicago.
If that wasn’t enough, the White Sox take a hands on approach to helping their community every summer when they host instructional seminars for more than 2,000 kids. It is a week long program where kids can go and learn how to play the game of baseball by former professional players and coaches. And, to make this program even more exciting for the kids, the White Sox team also comes to visit and talk to the children.
The number of charities and programs that the Chicago White Sox donate to are countless. They are a model of responsibility which should be followed by all athletic teams. They use their money in a constructive way, by helping others. And because of it, their community loves them.
