Blaine Wilson Olympics Diary: July 7, 2004

If you make the team, this will be your third time at the Olympics. What does that mean to you?
I really think this is the best team we have had since I’ve been on the Senior National Team. We really have the whole package this time with the routines. And the heart and the desire are really there. I think that is the biggest difference between past Games I have competed in, and it would be great to be a part of that kind of team.
Are there particular moments that stand out in your mind from Atlanta and Sydney?
In Atlanta, it was definitely walking out the first day of competition and having 40,000 people chanting U-S-A. That was pretty awesome. In Sydney, I’d say the whole experience in general stands out. We didn’t do as well as we should have as a team, but just to be an Olympian says a lot.
Do you feel more prepared now than you were at your first Games?
Definitely. I have the experience now and I’ve been in these situations before. I think it really comes down to how long you’ve been in high pressure situations and I’ve been around for a while so I know that helps me.
Do you have any advice for fellow athletes who are competing in their first Olympic Games?
There really isn’t anything I can tell them that they don’t already know, but I would definitely tell them to enjoy the experience, but really go out there and hit a lot of routines.
