Blaine Wilson Diary: June 11, 2004
Tell us what your typical weekday is like.
I typically wake up at about 8:50 a.m. and go to a local gym, called Worlds Gym. I do about 35 to 40 minutes of stomach strength, run for 5 minutes and then do some general strength exercises such as pull-ups, curls, etc.
Next, I go home, get something to eat and go to practice from 11am - 1pm. After our first practice I usually come home and sit around a little bit, then head back to practice from about 3:45 p.m. until about 5:45 p.m. When I am done with my second practice, I go home, eat dinner and sit around. I spend a lot of time waiting around for the next practice.
What about your weekends?
I go to Worlds Gym on both Saturday and Sunday to either run and/or lift weights. We also have practice one weekend day a week and it depends on upcoming events which day we have practice. Right now we practice from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and then I play golf. On Sunday, I usually go into the gym after Worlds so I can workout on my own, since I am a little behind due to injury.
Does your training schedule vary depending on the time of the year, before meets, after, etc.?
Yes, as we get closer to an event we don’t work out as many hours in a day. At the beginning of the quadrennium we will work out anywhere from 6 to 6 1/2 hours a day and as we get closer to the Games and our routines are set, we only work out about 3 to 3 1/2 hours a day. Our day off will also vary depending on when competition is.
