Skateboard Safety Tips
Riding a skateboard can be fun, but if you don’t take the proper precautions it can be a dangerous sport. Take this advice to heart whether you’re a beginner or advanced rider.
- Make sure you always wear the proper safety gear such as a helmet, elbow, knee, and wrist guards, and long pants. Helmets should have adjustable chin straps to keep your helmet securely on your head in the event of a fall.
- Talk to a professional at your local skate shop to find the right size skateboard for you
- Skateboard on smooth surfaces away from traffic. Many communities have skateboarding parks with professionally designed “bowls” and “ramps,” try to skate there, or in designated areas for skateboarding.
- Only skateboard during the day, because it is hard to see the surface you are skating on at night.
- Never hang on to a moving vehicle to be pulled
- By using the right skateboard and protective equipment in the right place, you can start to skate safely at any age!
