Pool Safety
Though summer is coming to an end, the heat doesn’t seem to be. And even with a few weeks left before school starts up again and the season turning into fall, there’s still some time for some fun in the sun. Many of us will go swimming in our back yard pools or in a community pool, but it’s important to remember that when you have fun in the water, you must also be safe.
Here are a few suggestions on how to keep your last few weeks swimming like fish safe:
- Regularly check that the gate latches securely and that spring mechanisms work properly. Regularly oil the hinges and latches.
- Post CPR instructions and the 911 emergency number in the pool area.
- Keep lifesaving equipment, such as a pole, life preserver and rope - in the pool area. Hang them from the fence so people won’t trip on them.
- Have a phone handy to the pool area and call 911 should a problem occur.
