Q: Which do you think will hit the ground first when dropped from a height - an egg or a stone of exactly the same size and shape? (Don’t try this from your window - you may hit someone!)
A: The two objects will fall at the same rate and hit the ground at the same time. Falling is controlled by the force of gravity. Gravity is affected by the object’s mass (the amount of material in it) rather than the heaviness of the object.
Q: Which was the first aircraft to fly faster than the speed of sound, and when did it first do so?
A: Flown by American pilot Chuck Yeager on October 14, 1947, the rocket-powered Bell X-1 was the first aircraft to break the sound barrier. A sonic boom is produced when an aircraft flies faster than the speed of sound.
