What is an RSS Feed?

Have you ever seen any of these buttons when you visit a website?
When you visit certain sites you might see an orange button that says RSS or XML, or some other buttons for MyYahoo, BlogLines, MyMSN and other websites. What are these buttons for, and what can you do with them?
These buttons allow you to access what is called an RSS feed of newly-posted content. RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication,” and it provides a simple way to receive the latest articles and announcements automatically in a News Reader, or on a personalized webpage that you may have on MyAOL, MyYahoo, MyMSN or Google.
Why would you want to read the articles this way? For one thing, if you visit several websites, you can view the RSS content from those websites all in one place (such as MyAOL or MyYahoo), and you’ll find the latest announcements and stories all ready for you to read.
You don’t have to worry about missing any content that might get lost in your email box, and you’ll know when new content is available, because it will be listed on your page and marked as new.
Below is an example of how your customized feeds would appear on a MyAOL page. You can subscribe to Chevron Cars feeds here:
