High Definition Television (HDTV)

Have you ever heard of HDTV? How is HDTV different from regular TV?
HDTV means high definition television, and it’s a rather new broadcast technology.
HDTV requires a digital television broadcast that is a much higher resolution than regular television broadcasts. Resolution is the number of pixels in a fixed area that make up a digital image. The higher resolution the image, the better quality the picture will be.
Since HDTV is a digital broadcast, HDTV technology is closely related to the development of digital television (DTV). Digital television uses a digital signal instead of a traditional analog signal. Today most TVs have the ability to receive digital broadcasts and analog broadcasts. Most digital signals are received through a “set-top box” which decodes the digital signal and displays it on an analog TV.
So what exactly is better about HDTV? There are several visual benefits to HDTV. One is that the colors on the TV screen appear much more realistic. The high resolution also makes it possible to watch HD broadcasts on larger screens and maintain good picture quality. The sound is also enhanced with HDTV. Dolby digital surround sound comes standard with most HDTV broadcasts, instead of basic stereo audio.
So HDTV sounds pretty cool, especially if you are a big fan of watching TV. Do you think you already watch too much TV? Do you have a high definition television?
