Computers and Art

If you are reading this article in the ChevronCars Tribune, then you are most likely using a computer. Today, computers are everywhere and used by just about every business and are in many homes. But, that wasn’t always the case. In 1960 the world’s first small, interactive computer was introduced but it still took many years for them to become common.
Around the same time, General Motors and IBM created the first computer drawing system called the DAC-1. This system allowed a person to input a 3D description of an automobile into a computer, and then rotate it and view it from all different directions. This was a major breakthrough for computer technology, because on that day the world of computer graphics was born.
What makes computer graphics so important? Well, for starters, look at the Tribune. Imagine what it would look like with just words. Not very pretty. Now take a look at ChevronCars.com, and imagine the entire site without any neat animal characters or cool Chevron Cars. None of these images would be possible without computer graphics. But, computer graphics aren’t just limited to still pictures on your computer monitor. Many television shows and movies use computer animation to enhance the story line and add to the special effects. Jurassic Park, for example, relied heavily on computer animation to make the dinosaurs look real, and boy, do they look real! The world of computer animation has come a long way since the birth of the DAC-1, and just imagine what lies ahead for us to see in the future!
