Do you ever wonder why we give Valentines? There are many different opinions of where Valentine’s Day was originated. Perhaps the most famous is from the Christian Legend of St. Valentine who was beheaded on February 14th under the orders of Roman Emperor Claudius II. The Emperor believed that if the men in his army were single then his army would be larger because they wouldn’t want to stay home with their families. Valentine would secretly marry couples who were forbidden to wed and because of this, he became the patron saint of lovers. To celebrate the memory of this saint, who valued love and romance, many people exchange love notes called Valentines.
