Labor Day
Labor Day is a legal holiday that honors all of our working men and women. It all started in 1892 when Peter McGuire a carpenter from New York City and Matthew McGuire a machinist from Patterson, New Jersey suggested to their unions that they should have a day to honor workers. 10,000 employees marched in the first gathering. In 1894 President Cleveland made it a legal holiday. The day is recognized as the unofficial end of summer. People have picnics and barbecues.
