Picnic tables, bandstands, wherever you are, you’ll be seeing a lot of red, white and blue on Independence Day. Each of these colors is used in the American flag and has a special meaning. Do you know what these colors mean? Are you sure? If not, do read on and find out!

• White stands for Purity

Each symbol has a its own meaning too.

• The fifty stars represent the 50 states. Originally there were only 13 stars for the 13 colonies. A star was added each time a new state joined the union.
• The 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies, reminding us of our heritage.
