Recycling Helps the Environment
Hey Kids! Here’s a cool gardening project that you can try that will recycle a cardboard egg crate, and help you grow some great plants for your garden. Just use empty cardboard egg crates to plant seeds, and when the seeds are ready to transplant, cut the sections apart and plant the whole section. The egg crate will help the seedling retain water without harming the environment.
Recycling can make a HUGE difference to our planet. Here are some facts you might be amazed by:
- Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours…
- Making a can out of recycled aluminum takes only 5 percent of the energy needed to make an aluminum can from raw materials…
- Steel cans are 100% recyclable; for every pound of steel recycled, 5,450 BTU’s of energy are conserved - enough to light a 60-watt light bulb for over a day!…
- One out of every $11 that Americans spend on food goes for packaging…
- When a steel mill uses recycled scrap, it cuts related water pollution and mining wastes by 70%…
- Paper recycling efforts conserve an estimated 200,000 trees each year…
