Easter Bonnets

Easter Bonnet

Another tradition during Easter has been to wear new clothes to celebrate the coming of Spring. Tradition says that the wearing of three new things during Easter assures good luck during the following year. The Easter bonnet is also a tradition during this time of year. Easter bonnets are generally round and filled with ribbons, flowers and leaves. The circular shape of the Easter bonnet symbolizes the circular shape of the sun and the full-circle return of the beginning of Spring.

Have some fun this year. Be creative and try to make your own beautiful hat with flowers and decorations.

  • Thick construction paper of any color
  • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
  • Flowers or leaves
  • Stapler, tape and glue
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon or elastic thread
  • Stickers or any other small decorations are optional

  1. Color a piece of construction paper in any creative style. You can color pictures or cut out pictures from a magazine and glue them to the paper.
  2. Continue to decorate with flowers, leaves, ribbons, stickers, or any other neat decorations
  3. Fold into a cone shape while holding on your head to size and tape or staple together.
  4. Cut the bottom so it is even and it fits on your head
  5. Cut a piece or ribbon or thread and staple it to both ends of the hat so it will stay on your head
  6. Make one for yourself or as a gift for others
