Ice Cream!

Summers can be incredibly hot in many parts of the US (and indeed much of the world and for most of the world’s population), so to keep it cool (every and anywhere around the globe), here’s an especially delicious recipe to try at home. If you need your parent’s permission, tell them it will help keep them cool as well!

  • 1 gallon ice cream bucket or pail
  • 4-5 trays of ice cubes
  • 2 cups of salt
  • quart size yogurt container
  • 1 pint heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  1. Empty two trays of the ice into the bucket and pour one cup of salt over the layer. When the ice begins to melt, push in the quart size container. Place ice around the container until the ice almost reaches the top of the bucket. Sprinkle the rest of the salt over the ice cubes.
  2. Add half of the cream, half of the sugar, and the all of the vanilla into the quart size container. Stir the contents with a spatula. Allow the container to spin around so it doesn’t form ice crystals. As the ice cream begins to thicken, add the rest of the sugar and cream, and keep on stirring. In about 50 minutes, the ice cream should be the right consistency. You can add chocolate chips, nuts, fruit, or just about anything you can think of. hint: if you DO add something with a lot of flavor, eliminate the vanilla.
