Gingerbread Valentines

Valentine Hearts

Here is a tasty Valentine’s Day cookie recipe you can share with family, friends and maybe someone extra special. You can use a heart-shaped cookie form to create the cookies, or carefully cut unique shapes exactly the way you want yourself.

Whatever you do, don’t forget to ask a responsible adult to help you.

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1 large egg
  • heart shaped cookie cutter

  1. In large bowl, sift first five ingredients together.
  2. In a separate bowl, blend margarine and sugar till smooth.
  3. Add corn syrup and egg; beat well.
  4. Add the sifted flour and spices, 1/3 at a time. Mix until smooth after each addition.
  5. Chill dough one hour.
  6. Roll out 1/2 of dough on lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness.
  7. Use cookie cutter to cut out heart shapes.
  8. Put hearts on cookie sheet.
  9. Bake at 350 degrees till golden, 15 to 20 minutes.
  10. Remove from oven and carefully put cookies on wire rack to cool.
  11. Make another batch of cookies with remaining dough.
