Who has been a good influence in your life? Try to think of one person who has made a positive difference in the way you think and act. It can be anyone, a parent, a musician, an entertainer, an athlete, a friend or a relative. Throughout life, you’ll find that there’s at least one person that you look up to, and that person you can call your role model.

For this Father’s Day edition, we thought a good role model to mention would be someone who is a father himself. Not only is he a father, but he was also one of the best basketball players in the NBA, and has left a lasting and positive influence on children and adults alike. This great man that we’re referring to is none other than Michael Jordan. Here are some of the great things he’s done to earn the title of role model.

As a child, Michael was more interested in playing baseball than he was in basketball. He was named Most Valuable Player when his Babe Ruth team won the state championships. He was always determined to win in any situation. His teachers remember Michael coming in to school at 6 am to practice every morning. He was an extremely driven young man, and that shined through as he entered college and began playing basketball at the University of North Carolina. His dedication to practising and being the best he could be led him to professional basketball.

In 1984 he won Rookie of the Year in the NBA draft, and was chosen by the Chicago Bulls. In his career with the Bulls, his average was 31.7 points per game which is an all time record. He also holds 9 NBA scoring titles. He helped the Chicago Bulls to win their 5th World Championship in seven years, and his success has been an inspiration to many. Michael Jordan is just a human being like anyone else, but what makes him so special and respected is his concentration and focus. Jordan worked hard for everything he’s ever attained, and that makes him a positive role model. He inspires others to work hard for what they want. Just think, if you work hard, and do the things you want to do, perhaps someone will think of you as their role model.
