When does camp begin?
All of the guys will arrive here on Sunday and the camp officially begins on Monday.
It is in your hometown, right?
The camp is in my hometown and I am really happy about that.

The training camp is taking place in Colorado Springs, correct? When do you leave for the training camp?
We leave this Sunday for the training camp.

In the last interview you talked about the importance of showing everyone that you were “back” at the Trials. How do you feel now that they are over?
I feel pretty good about it. I did all six events and I chose to do all six events because that’s how I started my career and that’s what I wanted to do at that meet. I definitely think it went well for me and it’s continuously getting better.

If you make the team, this will be your third time at the Olympics. What does that mean to you?
I really think this is the best team we have had since I’ve been on the Senior National Team. We really have the whole package this time with the routines. And the heart and the desire are really there. I think that is the biggest difference between past Games I have competed in, and it would be great to be a part of that kind of team.

How do you feel about your performance at Trials?
I felt I had one of the best competitions ever even though I didn’t do floor or vault at the trials. I had a good feeling for some reason as soon as I got to California and set foot in the arena. I had such an amazing time last year at the Worlds and I felt a sense of comfort when I was back there in the arena.

How do you feel about your performance at Trials?
I was really happy with it. I only had one routine that I missed and I feel my overall performance was strong. I’m really happy to be on team.

How does it feel to know you are heading to your first Olympic Games in little more than a month?
I’m really excited and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to represent my country at the Olympic Games. I feel this is going to be one of the best teams the US has ever put together and am so happy I can be a part of it.

What does it mean to you to be headed to the Olympics for the second consecutive time?
It means a lot, especially this time around. I am in a different position than the last Olympic Games. This year I am in a position to medal as an individual and with the team as well.
Fencing evolved from an ancient form of combat. Pictorial carvings from a temple in Egypt dating back to 1190 BC show fencers at play. Many other civilizations like those of China, Persia, Babylonia, Japan and Greece trained its people in swordplay for combat. Fencing as a sport began in the 14th or 15th century, with both Italy and Germany laying claim as the original home of the sport.
One of the most popular and oldest sports of the Olympics, Gymnastics has been a part of “the games” since ancient times. The sport traces its origins to Greece where athletes received physical training in a special arena, in addition to many other disciplines including the arts, philosophy and literature. “Gymnos,” the Greek word for naked, is the origin for the word gymnastics. Competition events fall into one of three categories, Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Trampoline.
The history of Modern Pentathlon is one of the most exciting of the Olympic sports! The sport originated from a legend where a warrior has to surmount many obstacles to convey a message. This messenger had to not only battle on horseback, but to swim and run to complete his task. The roots of Modern Pentathlon can be traced to the ancient Pentathlon, a sport that included Discus, Javelin, Long-Jump, Running and Wrestling. This ancient form was incorporated into the ancient Olympic Games in 708 BC.
