The Witches
Halloween brought out the ghouls, ghosts and goblins in all of us. And in honor of this spectacular holiday, we wanted to recommend a great book that will keep the spirit of Halloween alive. While you’re eating all of your yummy candy pick up The Witches by Roald Dahl.
In the book, Bruno Bettelheim is a 7-year-old boy who lives with his grandmother. She has told him a story of a society of witches, and she claims that they are real. Bruno’s grandmother describes them as baldheaded, claw–fingered, toeless women, who wear wigs, gloves, makeup and pointy shoes to cover up their witch-like qualities. For Bruno, this is just a tale told by his grandmother, until he stumbles across the society of witches and finds that he’s been turned into a mouse! The story can be gross at times, but it’s highly entertaining. Find out what happens to Bruno and the witches he encounters.
