Book Worm
Have you been doing any reading this summer? Perhaps lounging on the beach or by the pool? Hopefully you’ve been doing some reading because there are so many great books out there. Every so often we’ll tell you about a great book that’s on the shelves at bookstores and your local library. So check them out and if you feel like it, let us know what you think. Also, if you have a book that you loved, write to us and tell us about it. Make sure to include the author’s name, and the title of the book. This week we’re going to review Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. (It’s also called Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone so don’t get confused.)
Harry Potter is an eleven-year-old boy who hasn’t had the best life. He was raised by his aunt and uncle and big bully cousin, Dudley. And for his eleven years of life, he’s lived in a closet beneath the stairs and has never had a birthday party. Harry is a pretty unhappy boy, until one day, he is visited by a giant named Hagrid who told Harry that his mother was a witch and his father was a wizard and that it was Harry’s time to follow in his parents footsteps. He is told that he is now going to attend a new school called the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizadry. Harry couldn’t be happier to get out of his house and become a wizard. And oh, what an exciting place it is!
Harry makes many new friends, takes classes in spells, potions, and charms, and learns the magical game of Quidditch. And this is just the beginning of Harry’s adventures. He enters the realm of mystery and magic and makes you want to read the entire book in one sitting! Check out this very cool book and if you need more of Harry when you finish, you can read the sequel, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Enjoy!
